In Hawaiian culture, leis carry deep meaning. They represent love, respect, congratulations, and the spirit of aloha. Placing a lei around a graduate’s neck is like saying, “You did it, and we’re proud of you,” in the most beautiful way possible. The picture above is of my Grandma Sally with my Aunty Sia at her college graduation wearing leis that were handmade by my Grandpa and other family members.
